California Senior Photographer
I never expected to be a California senior photographer. However, the timing of visiting my aunt’s family in Folsom worked out perfectly to take my cousin’s senior pictures! Especially because my other graduating cousin who lives in Utah would be coming on the California trip too. We planned a combined senior photo session for them. The grounds and nearby nature park areas of the Sacramento California LDS temple were the perfect location. The location provided such a wide variety of beautiful backgrounds for photos, plus it’s so convenient to have a public bathroom on the nature park area for outfit changes. We took the pictures early in the morning, and I love the gorgeous morning light that illuminated the photos.
A Tale of Two Seniors
Let me tell you about Sariah and Bethany. You will never meet a more fabulous, funny pair of best friend cousins as long as you live! Though they grew up living twelve hours apart, every time they got together they were thick as thieves. They both have a flair for the dramatic (to put it very mildly), gorgeous voices, and an obsession for musical theater. Bethany and Sariah are both fantastic at acting and doing impressions. And ever since they were little girls, they’ve been dressing up in costumes and filming original plays, often with characters based on some of their favorite movies–like The Sound of Music, Hello Dolly, and Anne of Green Gables. Snobby Edwardian-era rich ladies, heroic WWII-era nuns, and giggly 1920’s flappers are just a few of the characters they’ve created. Naturally, we had to capture some of these antics in their combined senior photos. As usual, the girls put the costumes together themselves from hand-me-downs, fabric stashes, and even old curtains. We all had a blast capturing these senior photos, both the more formal senior photos of each girl, and the photos of these two in character. (The Star Wars and nun photos were taken in Sariah’s backyard later that night–we couldn’t resist throwing in a Madeline/Miss Clavel-style cameo with my little girl who dressed up as Madeline for Halloween a few years ago and who adores Sariah and Bethany).
