This shoot marks my first time working as a recipe photographer! Normally when shooting for Nurished, I take photos of their products with related props. This time, Nurished also sent me a few smoothie recipes they created that use their products. The team at Nurished needed photos of the smoothies to pair with the recipes and share on their blog. These smoothie recipes taste AMAZING and contain tons of extra nutritional goodness from Nurished nutritional supplements. I felt excited to take on this new challenge of recipe photography and I really enjoyed the process!
The Recipe Photography Process
This shoot involved taking photos of the entire process of making the smoothies: styled flaltays of all the ingredients, still life photos of the supplement products with a blender and the ingredients for the smoothie, flatlay photos of the ingredients and powder going into the blender from above, and still life process photos of the smoothie mixed in the blender and in a cup with the supplement products and ingredients. This shoot was a lot of fun, and my family sure loved tasting the smoothies as I finished shooting each one!
Behind the Scenes
I remember one of the unexpected challenges of the shoot was hiding the blender cord–I was shooting the photos with my fake kitchen countertop setup in my bedroom, so I didn’t have a convenient hidden outlet behind the blender. I had to wrap the cord on the bottom of the blender to take the photo of the ingredients in the blender, then plug the blender into a power strip, turn it on, take a photo just in case I needed to photoshop the actual blending process later, turn it off, wrap the cord underneath again, and take another photo. A tripod was an absolute must for this shoot, as you can imagine! Overall, I loved my first rodeo as a recipe photographer and I love how the images turned out too!
